State-of-the-Art Fracture Stimulation of the Upper Morrow Formation in the Anadarko Basin (SPE 18260)


In the Upper Morrow formation of western Oklahoma, Northcutt et al. reported that higher proppant concentrations improved production. The Standard Oil Company found that placing 2 lb/ft2 20/40 HSP doubled pre-frac rates.  Increasing concentration to 5.5 lb/ft2 resulted in four-fold production increases, despite modest reservoir permeability as low as 0.01 md.


Field application of a state-of-the-art fracture stimulation technique has been used to achieve higher proppant concentrations than generally pumped by industry in the Upper Morrow formation of the western Anadarko Basin. As a result of the application of this technique, greater production increases have been realized.
